Making Noise: Musicians at NYU
April 11, 2016
Every month, my tiny apartment transforms into a sanctuary for a night of sharing words, thoughts and lyrics. At these open mics, I am pleasantly stunned by the number of friends who perform their original songs. Some have more experience, having had meticulously created their sound while some have a more experimental, lax approach. Yet, whether the inclination to record music has been fostered by aspiring musical dreams or a simple hobby, these musicians make up an impressive community of creativity and I have found myself on the cusp of delving into this extensive network. A night out at dimly-lit music venues around the city that have hosted a flux of these musicians and bands is especially telling of just how many recording musicians make up the NYU community. From releasing new albums to performing gigs or utilizing resources in the Clive Davis Institute, individuals of all and any background are molding recorded music into their own narrative. Please enjoy reading about the vast music scene at NYU!
