Mathieu Mirano Spring/Summer 2013

With only two previous collections under his belt, NYC native and up-and-coming designer Mathieu Mirano debuted his Spring Summer 2013 collection.

Viewers were immediately transported to a land remnant of an ice queen’s forest. The 22 models stood atop an all-white circular tiered stage complete with giant icicles emerging from the surface, creating a look both whimsical and devious.

Mirano’s collection featured sharply tailored leather jackets and sophisticated daywear, however his exquisite gowns are what really stood out. Evening gowns in rich hues of orange, green, navy, red, and white, when set against the icy white backdrop, really popped.

Whether it was a rainbow applique on sheer white organza, a full torso zipper on a ruched green chiffon, or a gold archaeopteryx embroidered to a navy v-neck, Mirano’s designs were works of wearable art.

Nonetheless, it was Mirano’s incorporation of actual beetle wings to create an intricate and shiny green bodice for an otherwise plain chiffon gown that evoked feelings of sincere amazement from the crowd.

At the tender age of 21, it’s hard to believe that Mathieu Mirano debuted his collection along the likes of the most famous American designers, but after his astounding and colorful Spring 2013 presentation, it’s clear that Mirano is on his way to a promising career in women’s fashion.
