DKNY Spring/Summer 2013

Donna Karan reflected her passion for the energy of New York in this year’s Spring Summer 2013 line. The city expression was underlined by a Rock & Roll sound track by Biggie, Nena and Jay-Z. A chaotic, yet entertaining presentation was performed at the Cedar Lake warehouse, as the models entered from the outdoors, with a backdrop of New York, and toured the runway, intersecting each other, creating a traffic – like effect.

The models sported undone hair and clean make up presenting the everyday city woman. The sleek jersey skirts with slits, the button down blouses, and the outerwear emphasized the practicality of city life, providing a smooth transition from the day into the night, just with the addition of the right accessory.

Even the Accessories, fanny packs, handbags, bag packs, revolved around functionality through use of pockets and metal wear. The cut of the line was simple with a white, black, denim and blue color palette only broken by a flash of yellow, inspired by New York taxi’s. However, the show took a new direction with camouflage tops, body suits and trousers of military inspiration for the more casual new Yorkers. With a mix of vizors and sneaker high heels, the line took sporty to chic new levels. Leather detail for blazers and dresses was used to emphasize the workingwoman sex appeal. Long and elegant dresses marked the end draping the body in classical Donna Karan Shapes, promoting sexy and functional.
