Sheena Trivedi Spring/Summer 2013

Sheena Trivedi combined traditional Indian aesthetics with the cutting edge styles of New York City to create her debut collection, “Boarding Pass: New York, New Delhi”.  The combination of these two unique cultures is a theme she plans to build on in future collections.

At Trivedi’s first presentation, Indian music played and the models posed amongst vibrantly dressed mannequins.  Trivedi created an intriguing juxtaposition of colors and textures in her designs, utilizing leather, silks, beads, and brocades.  Metallic zippers and black leather were combined with rich plums, blues, and golds to enhance the eye-catching effect of Trivedi’s designs. The looks ranged from casual chic to formal attire by integrating sports-wear inspired hoods and intricate beading.  Brocade fabrics in vivid blues and purples and beaded trim elevated the casual silhouettes of the jackets, while sheer black fabrics created a multi dimensional effect.  Trivedi manipulated shape in her delicately draped cocktail dresses and angled jackets.

As night began to fall, guests arrived and hors d’oeuvres were served, creating a casual party atmosphere.  The models posed amongst the crowd, periodically making outfit changes.  Hair was kept simple, accented by traditional bindis, while make up emphasized bright lips.

An interview with the designer revealed her inspirations for the line.  Trivedi is constantly inspired by everything she sees in New York City, ranging from buildings to sunsets to people on the street. In response to showcasing her first collection, Trivedi said it was an overwhelming, but really great night.
