Rachel Antonoff Spring/Summer 2013

Have you ever watched models playing badminton during fashion week? What about a model eating green fondant cake, carving into a tree, cutting a bush, having a picnic? Rachel Antonoff’s Spring/Summer 2013 presentation at The Root Studios in Chelsea was a whimsical garden party seemingly hatched out of a dream.

Cherry blossom trees, shaped topiaries, picnic baskets, stone benches, a badminton net, white vintage patio furniture and a fluffy cat brought everyone into Antonoff’s magical world of fashion. Antonoff’s collection used a limited palate of green, blue, red, white and black. She used a strong green tribal pattern in multiple garments and a few pieces were a contemporary spin-off of seersucker. Her line was full of high wasted pants, knee length summer dresses, flowing skirts, button up collared shirts, and fitted shorts: perfect for a warm summer day.

Her simple clothing choices, allowed attention to be focused on her new line of shoes: Bass Loves Rachel Antonoff. Antonoff, famous for her take on saddle shoes, revived jelly shoes and blended them with saddle shoes to create a more modern style. The combination of the elegant clothing with the funky shoes created a comfortable yet fashionable look, which any girl can achieve. The garments were incredibly versatile, acceptable for playing badminton, gardening, or attending a tea party. Upon exiting the picnic, guests entered a bright room full of picnic benches with PB&J triangle sandwiches and pink lemonade. Rachel’s brother, Jack Antonoff: drummer for the band fun. appeared, as well as Sara Bareilles.
