Kaelen Haworth Spring 2013

The scene at Kaelen Haworth’s Spring 2013 presentation this morning resembled the most delicate and intimate of menageries — the models, poised like glamorous (albeit hungry) exotic birds, were close enough to touch; however, no one dared to venture closer than a foot to the lovely clothes which adorned them.

Kaelen Haworth’s charming namesake line strikes a perfect balance between the East and West — sunny yellow hues were paired with no-nonsense collars; strappy shoes lent charm to an unexpected pair of what appeared to be bike shorts. The pastels were contrasted by a striking black evening gown with a close-cut collar and white panels on the sides. Other standouts included a tennis-white skirt that had the disarmingly attractive look of half-folded origami.

The eighteen looks on display explored a variety of prints, from “graphite rock” to nautical stripe, but nothing ever stepped past the boundaries of complete wearability. I know the girl who wears these clothes — she’s striding down 5th Ave with purpose in her step, her Bikram yoga class behind her and a night of cocktails ahead. Perhaps she isn’t the most avant-garde of women, but she’s perfected a formula that, like Kaelen’s clothes, works.
