Warm weather is here, and with it comes a slew of summer music festivals. Coachella, California’s answer to Woodstock, recently wrapped up over on the West Coast, and Sunfest 2013, the largest music festival to be held right on the water, opens this week in West Palm Beach. There is a music festival-inspired culture that sports boho-inspired hairstyles. Try this fun and sweet crown braid that keeps hair out of your face, so that you don’t need to worry about touch-ups as you rush from set to set.
.) Start by parting dry hair straight down the middle of your head. Divide hair so a thick section falls to the right of your head. Sweep the rest of your hair behind your head and across your left shoulder to keep it out of the way.
.) Divide the section of hair on the right side of your head into three equal, smaller strands.
.) Start to braid the hair. As you braid, pull up on the hair so you are braiding into the air instead of braiding toward the ground.
.) Keep braiding across the top of your head. If you have bangs, choose to either incorporate them into the main braid or leave them down.
.) Finish braiding and secure the end of the braid with a small, clear elastic band. Pin the end of the braid behind your ear with bobby pins that match your hair color. Pull some of the loose hair forward to cover the pin.
.) If needed, pin the rest of the crown braid in place along your scalp with bobby pins.
.) Finish by spritzing your hair with hairspray to keep the braid in place. It will also give your hair texture and fight frizz.
.) For some added fun, complete your festival hair look with a woven crown of flowers or add hair chalk to the tips of loose hair for some fun color.
