Grammy-award-winning artist Ziggy Marley, son of late reggae legend Bob Marley, performed to a sold-out crowd yesterday.

As the lights dimmed at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts and Marley took the stage, the audience erupted into applause. Marley opened with "I Get Out," a track from his first solo album.

The crowd's excitement increased, as Marley's performance went on — reaching its loudest when Marley's six-person band began playing the instrumentals to "Get Up, Stand Up," arguably one of Bob Marley's most popular songs.

Marley then returned to his own hits, like "True to Myself" and "Love Is My Religion," his album of the same name that won a Grammy award for Best Reggae Album in 2007.

Many NYU students who attended said they were not necessarily Marley fans, but simply had an appreciation for reggae music and concerts in general.

"I just love concerts, pretty much anything," LSP freshman Rubi Mora said. "I was at the Big Boi one and I don't really follow Big Boi but the energy is so much fun."

Steinhardt graduate student Amara Marino said she attended the show to take advantage of the NYU student discount at the Skirball Center.

"We're here just for fun and it's cheap; it's the perks of being an NYU student," Marino said. "You pay a lot of money to come here so you use what's available to you."

The evening concert was the adult evening counterpart to "Family Time with Ziggy Marley," a child-friendly show held at the Skirball Center earlier that afternoon.
