The Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life and the Student Senators Council held a vigil for Haiti at 4:53 p.m. yesterday at Gould Plaza. The ceremony commemorated two weeks since the earthquake struck the island. The Bronfman Center will be collecting money to support Haiti.

The event was co-sponsored by the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, the Communcations Club, Chabad at NYU, the United Muslims Association, NYU Alternative Breaks, the Pakistani Students Association, the Chicken and Rice Club, Gesher, Hillel at NYU and Oxfam America.
"It was the entire NYU community's idea to make a difference and to spread awareness," Stern junior Daniel Bloch Jeydel said.
Haitian students, including Stern alumnus Richard St. Arromand and Stern graduate student Nehanda Loiseau, spoke. Other speakers included President John Sexton, university chaplain Rabbi Yehuda Sarna, director of campus ministry Father Vincent DeLucia and chair of the Student Senator's Council Whitney Petrie.
Many students were in attendance to show their support for the relief efforts.
"I think it's a great initiative and it's very nice of the people who organized [it]," CAS sophomore Mirza Ahmed said. "I appreciate that very much."
