The NYU men's volleyball team lost to top-ranked Juniata College (EIVA Division III poll) in three straight sets on Saturday at the Kennedy Sports and Recreation Center in Huntingdon, Pa. The team's record fell to 1-4 with the loss.

The ninth-ranked Violets couldn't get much of anything going against the host Eagles. NYU lost by scores of 30-23, 30-23 and 30-22. They were out-killed by only a small margin (36-32), but they had a hitting percentage of just .103 for the game and they committed 23 attack errors. Service errors, which have plagued the Violets throughout the season, played a part again on Saturday — the Violets committed 19. The team also committed 11 service return errors.

The strongest individual performances for the Violets came from sophomore Ryan Limb and freshman Cooper Gwaltney. Each had 11 kills, tying for the team lead. Limb only committed three attack errors, leaving him with a hitting percentage of .471 for the match. He also had two of the team's three solo blocks. Gwaltney had two of the Violets' six service aces of the night, but also committed four service errors and four return errors.

A balanced attack paced the Eagles on offense. Juniata senior Zach Wanner led the Eagles in kills with 10, but four other Eagles contributed five or more kills. The Eagles committed only 13 attack errors, combining for a .315 hitting percentage as a team. Wanner and sophomore Ben Wolff each led the team with a .400 hitting percentage. Sophomore captain Jay Hayes led the Violets with five digs on defense, while senior Anthony Damiano and junior Chris Vrooman each had seven for the Eagles.

The Violets will look to rebound from the loss on Tuesday when they travel to Princeton University to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m.
