Bravo!!! I was so glad when I read this – I agree with you 100%! I've been to a few really environmentally-friendly places in the past few years (many of the Scandinavian countries, Nova Scotia, etc) and I was surprised at how much they do but how little they talk about it... while here, there is just so much self-applauding talk about every little thing and yet so much more we could and SHOULD be doing!

Also, just wanted to add re: compostable/biodegradable products – they usually degrade only under the right (soil/moisture/temperature/etc.) conditions, but it can take literally hundreds of years if they're just compacted with other garbage in a landfill. So the intent is good but in practice, unless you put them in your own compost pile or something, if they go to a landfill they're just as bad as regular trash.
